AYER — Though official confirmation has been elusive, it appears Officer Terrence McSweeney is on administrative leave from the Police Department.
A source knowledgeable of the situation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said McSweeney has been on administrative leave since at least Feb. 27.
When asked, town administrator Shaun Suhoski referred the question to police Chief Richard Rizzo, who wouldn’t confirm or deny the report.
“Personnel issues are confidential, and I can’t comment on anything confidential,” he said.
McSweeney was previously dismissed by the Board of Selectmen following the so-called Gantz report investigation of the department in the mid-1990s.
That decision was later lessened to a suspension by an arbitrator, and McSweeney was awarded backed pay and a six-figure settlement from the town.
Efforts to reach McSweeney for comment were unsuccessful. — Nathan Lamb
