AYER — The school district is starting up the Ayer Education and Recreation. If there’s a class you would like to teach or take, send a 25- to 50-word proposal to hzane@ayer.k12.ma.us.
Irish Night at the Bull Run
SHIRLEY — The Ayer and Shirley Fire departments will present their second annual Irish Night on March 10, at 7 p.m., at the Bull Run Restaurant.
Irish Night is a night of fun, laughs and a chance to meet your fire and EMS officials. The event includes an assortment of door prizes and raffles. Live entertainment will be provided by Ben Parisi and Brian Cochran.

Rotary’s poker tournament offers $2,500 prize
SHIRLEY — The Devens-Harvard-Ayer-Shirley Rotary Club will host its third annual No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament on Sunday, March 11, at noon, at the Bull Run Restaurant.
The guest speaker and moderator of the event will be Ashley Adams, the author of “Transforming Home Poker Chumps into Casino Killers.”
Tickets for the event cost $100 in advance or $120 at the door. Those who are eliminated in the first two hours will be entered into a single table tournament for no additional fee.
The prize for first place is $2,500 based on 100 participants. Additional prizes will be awarded for runners up.
The event will benefit various Rotary charities including Loaves & Fishes, the Rotary Foundation, Rotary Youth Leadership Award, World Affairs Whitewater Seminar, Ayer Athletic Booster Club and other organizations. Funds also go toward scholarships, senior-citizen chicken barbecues and the maintenance of Carlton Circle.
Democratic Town Committee to hold ‘friend-raiser’
AYER — Are you yearning to learn more about grassroots Democratic action? Join the Democratic Town Committee on April 1, at noon, at JP O’Hanlon’s, for a “friend-raiser.”
This event will feature guest speaker Michelle Collette, chairman of the Groton Democratic Town Committee. Learn what the Ayer Democratic Town Committee does and how it fits into the state and national effort.
