NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Robert J. Carton, 68, of Samsula, Fla., died in Florida on Jan. 17, 2007. He was born in Ayer, Mass., on April 11, 1938, son of the late Joseph and Ida (McDowell) Carton. He grew up in Ayer and served in the U.S. Navy for several years on a destroyer escort.

Bob married his wife Jane (Manning) Carton in 1976 and the moved to New Smyrna Beach and later Samsula, where they made their home until the present. He had many occupations including air conditioning, cabinet making, truck driving and most recently as a maintenance engineer at the Fifth District Court of Appeals, retiring last year.

He enjoyed fishing, motorcycle riding and “puttering around.”

His survivors include his wife, Jane (Manning) Carton of Samsula, Fla.; three sons, Robert J. Carton of Burlington, Vt., Chris Hall of Port Orange, Fla., and Rick Hall of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Diane LaRose of Hickory, N.C.; two brothers, Richard and Stephen Carton, both of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and a sister, Judith Sheehan of Raymond, N.H. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Badger Funeral Home, 44 E. Main St., Ayer, on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m.
