PEPPERELL — Rita C. (Cote) Szurley, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston.

Mrs. Szurley was born Feb. 26, 1921 in Tewksbury, a daughter of Louis J. and Delia (Morrissette) Cote, and had lived in Pepperell for the past three years. She had been a resident of Tewksbury until moving to Albuquerque, N.M., in 1988 where she resided until 2004.

Mrs. Szurley was the wife of the late Joseph W. Szurley, who died in 2003.

Mrs. Szurley is survived by one son; David J. Szurley and his wife, Mary Frances, of Townsend; one daughter, Dale Unsworth and her husband, Fred, of Albuquerque, N.M.; three brothers, Philip Cote of Dracut, Clement Cote of Billerica, and Joseph George Cote of Moriarty, N.M.; two sisters, Annette Seamans of Leominster, and Irene Lynch of Venice, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jill Robichaud, Kristen Castro, Matthew Unsworth, Paul Unsworth and Jennifer Adcock; 10 great-grandchildren, Nicole and Sophia Robichaud, Manny and Jarod Castro, Avery and Kathleen and Antonio Unsworth, Alexandria and John Patrick Unsworth and Rebekah Adcock; along with and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Ernest Cote, Henry Cote and Gerard Cote.

Mrs. Szurley was employed for 25 years at the Raytheon Company in Lowell as an executive secretary for contracts until her retirement in 1986.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, Jan. 29 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Townsend, followed by burial in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M.
