GROTON — Selectmen has recognized Water Department employee George Brackett for 25 years of service, working for the town in one capacity or another.
“He’s served the town well over the years,” Board of Selectmen Chairman Peter Cunningham said during the board’s Jan. 29 meeting. Brackett began as an EMT with the town’s old rescue squad and segued into the Fire Department as a call fireman in 1996.
In 1987 Brackett joined the Water Department, where he now holds the position of senior water technician, supervising the repair of water main breaks. With responsibilities that frequently include house calls, Brackett’s is often the face of the Water Department that residents see whenever there is a problem with their home water.
“We’re honored to recognize him and his service to the town,” Cunningham said of Brackett, who has been a resident of Groton since 1983.
“I like working for the town of Groton,” said Brackett, adding that after so many years on the job, many residents know him on sight and frequently greet him on the street. “On the job with the Water Department, there’s always something different to do and most people are nice.” — Pierre Comtois
