GROTON — Three area students were recognized by the Independent School League for their athletic achievements during the fall sports season at Lawrence Academy.

For the second year in a row, senior Erin Fleming received honorable mention for her contributions to Lawrence Academy’s soccer team as its starting goaltender. During the recent fall season, she was one of only two seniors on the team, both of whom earned coach Charles Franklin’s respect for providing leadership and guidance to younger teammates.

“Erin had some standout performances, especially with several spectacular saves in the 3-2 win over Thayer Academy,” said Franklin. For her accomplishments, Erin was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.

A high honors student who serves the student body as a peer counselor, Erin also plays varsity softball and basketball. She is the daughter of Barbara and Brian Fleming of Townsend.

Junior Oliver Taylor received honorable mention for his contributions to Lawrence Academy’s football team, and he was recognized by coach Brian Carroll as the team’s Most Valuable Player on offense.

“Oliver would line up and catch the ball as a wideout, but he was also a solid blocker and ball carrier in the backfield,” said Carroll.

On the defensive side of the ball, Oliver also made his mark as an outstanding safety, who broke up several passes and made many big tackles throughout the course of the season.

Oliver is the son of Lamia and Michael Taylor of Harvard.

Sophomore Lia Palmacci received honorable mention for her performance as a member of Lawrence Academy’s soccer team. Lia earned the recognition by leading her team on offense with two goals and five assists.

“Lia played all over the field, wherever we needed her,” said coach Charles Franklin. “She will be one of our key players returning next season.”

A high-honors student, Lia is the daughter of Brenda and Ernesto Palmacci of Groton.
