Far from being appalled, as is the writer in the Jan. 12 Talk Back section, we wish to express sincere thanks to Sen. Panagiotakos and Rep. Hargraves for being among the 62 legislators who voted in favor of advancing the Protection of Marriage Amendment to the 2007 Constitutional Convention.

In an atmosphere of well-organized and hostile charges of “homophobia” and “bigotry,” these two legislators are gratifying examples of courage and leadership. We appreciate their resistance to the widespread and perhaps tempting call to “move on” and avoid this vote, in light of the extensive range of other pressing legislative issues which they confront daily.

Additionally, we wish to specifically credit Senate President Travaglini for upholding the Massachusetts constitution by conducting a full and fair vote on Jan. 2.

Sincerely,

JOHN & MARIE LINDEN
