A story published in the Shirley Oracle on Jan. 12 incorrectly stated that the school administration presented over $1 million in “new initiatives.”

“It is correct that the entire budget is up slightly over $1 million,” said interim Superintendent of Schools Malcolm “Mac” Reid. “However, the ‘new initiatives’ total approximately half of that amount.”

The new initiatives make up $541,458 of the $1,029,115 total, which equals 52.6 percent of the requested increase, or 6.03 percent over the fiscal year 2007 budget, he said.
