“Home, the spot of earth

supremely blest;

A dearer, sweeter spot

than all the rest.” — Robert Montgomery.

Suddenly I have become my own aide. I must admit that currently the service I am providing to myself leaves much to be desired.

However there is one consolation; I can tell myself off.

As you might have guessed I’m home now, finally, after a long visit to one medical facility after another.

The Groton-Dunstable Regional $chool Di$trict has come in with its usual multi-million dollar budget increase over FY07, proposed for FY08. Of course both Dunstable and Groton were warned that there would be an override. This in turn begs the question: Is the administration deliberately making certain that an override is necessary?

I know the district wants to maintain class size (pupil to teacher ratio). The district seems set on block scheduling. Does block scheduling affect the pupil to teacher ratio in any way? Does it cost more?

I understand that many new positions are wanted. What, exactly is the cost of each position? Exactly what is the urgency of each position? Are they really necessary at this time?

What part is the GDRSC going to play in this game, between the “want a lot of money,” “need a lot of money” and the “don’t have a lot of money” groups? (The latter being the taxpayers of Groton and Dunstable.)

What about the “pay as you throw” plan? How much have we paid in tipping fees over the last three years, compared to the prior three years?

I am not surprised at the latest plans of the Groton Water Department. I wonder if the “Auto-CAD job is currently in the union. If not it should be. What effect would this maneuver have on a possible merger between the Water and Sewer departments?

By the way, how does the Sewer Department feel about the possible merger?

“The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like, and do what you’d rather not.” — Mark Twain.
