New student registration

SHIRLEY — Call the school at (978) 425-2630 to obtain information about student registration. For Center School and Devens School use ext. 480, Lura A. White School use ext. 422 and Shirley Middle School use ext. 501.

Food service news

SHIRLEY — The Food Service Department would like to make you aware that the cost for student lunches has increased this year to $2.

Students who ended the 2005-2006 school year with extra full-priced or reduced-priced pre-pays will be carried over to this year.

We would like to remind you that there is a no charging policy in all of our cafeterias. All lunches need to be paid for at the time of purchase. Prepaid lunch tickets are available and can be obtained from the appropriate cafeteria. You can prepay however many lunches you wish.

If financial assistance is needed, we have a free/reduced lunch program. For information or to receive an application call the Food Service Department at (978) 425-2630, ext. 487.

Extended-day program

SHIRLEY — The extended-day program is available for the 2006-2007 school year for students in preschool through eighth grade.

The before-school program is available at Lura White, Devens and the middle school from 7 a.m. until the start of school. The after-school program runs until 5:30 p.m.

There is a $25 registration fee per family. Rates are $4 per student per hour. Payments are made at the end of each month. Registration for the extended-day program will be held Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Lura White School, and Aug. 29, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Devens School. School bus transportation system

SHIRLEY — Bus passes are required for all students riding a bus to and from school. Detailed information may be obtained by visiting www.shirley-ma.gov or calling the Business Office at (978) 425-2630, ext. 401. If you already applied for a bus pass you should have received it this week.

The School District also offers a “Buy-a-Ride” program for students who need an occasional ride to or from school. The cost of a one-way pass is $2. Passes are available at the main office of each school and in the Business Office.
