BOS gives $25k in MCI funds to demolish Fredonian St. house

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

SHIRLEY — The town has been declined a Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Block Grant to demolish a house at 56 Fredonian St., according to the Board of Selectmen.

The board did, however, approve $25,000 from MCI funds to use for the project.

“We were looking for money specifically for Hill Lane road work and also a Fredonian Street house demolition,” said Selectman David Swain. “This leaves us with a problem on 56 Fredonian St. Basically, it is a public safety hazard and should be demolished. We can possibly loan money from the MCI funds and demolish the house and put a lien on the title. We have estimates of approximately $23,000.”

Also at the Aug. 21 meeting, the selectmen provided an update on the Hospital Road bridge reconstruction, which will close the bridge for two years on Sept. 1. The detour route will be Grant Road to West Main Street to access the Shirley town buildings and Lovell Road. — Jeanette Wade
