PEPPERELL — School is out and there are many programs available this summer through camps and town programs: playground programs, art programs, drama camp, swimming lessons, storytime, library offerings and sports camps, such as the SkyHawks Multi-Sport camp available for the second summer through Pepperell Recreation Department.

Sports camps are a great way to hone those skills of your child’s favorite sport! But, what if your child isn’t sure what his or her favorite sport is? There are options to sitting through an entire season of t-ball or soccer to see if it is something your child would enjoy. SkyHawks is an introductory program geared for ages 3-7, and it introduces basketball, soccer and T-ball each day for one week.

According to their Web site, “Skyhawks sports camps and programs have been teaching children and young adults life skills through athletics since 1979. Skyhawks is the nation’s largest and best sports camp provider and has trained over 1 million young athletes. Programs are offered in eleven different sports including soccer, baseball, basketball and football. Skyhawks offers programs in over 1000 communities nationwide in the summer and year-round, including after school programs.” (www.skyhawks.com)

This camp is a well established institution in nearby communities. In Rutland, Mass., for instance, there is a waiting list for summer camp registrants.

Summer 2005 was the first year this was offered in town. There were enough participants to run the week’s program, but this year, there is a minimum of 20 participants needed for it to run. It is a multi-sports camp open to both boys and girls. It is one week long, five mornings, 9 a.m. to noon. Children participate in three sports — basketball, T-ball and soccer. Costs are TinyHawks (ages 3-5)$40 for the week; Mini Hawks (ages 4-7) is $85 for the week.
