SHIRLEY — More sales people have been signing up for this year’s Hoedown. The annual community event will be held on June 3, from noon to 6 p.m., on the Shirley Common.

We already had registrations for food sales from the Historical Society, ShirleyArts! and SAFA. We already had sales booths from the Shirley Arts Association, Habitat for Humanity and Harvard Therapeutic Massage as well as an information booth from Nashoba Nursing. We already had folks selling bean bag animals, beanie babies, Avon products, pottery and jewelry.

New registrations arrived this week. The Youth Ventures Teams will again be sponsoring the Bouncing Castle and will help youngsters decorate their hats for the Crazy Hat Parade. The Girl Scouts will do face-painting and the Boy Scouts will sell sausages and carbonated beverages. The folks from the United Church will sell water and juice drinks and they will have some children’s activities.

Newly-registered sales booths include woodcrafts and information on water purification. The Conservation Commission will be selling plants to benefit Longley Acres. Hazen Library will have bags and other items to sell. The American Legion Auxiliary will have flea market items and a raffle. The Democratic Town Committee will be there with information on their candidates.

The day’s schedule starts with the flag-raising at noon, then Butch Bazillion with music for young and old, the egg toss and sack races, the crazy hat parade, magic with Jason and finally the Hollis Town Band at 4 p.m.

It’s not too late to sign up for a sales booth. Just go to the Historical Society Web site at You can also call the society on Saturdays, 10 -1, at (978) 425-9328 for further information.
