Lu Porter to hold court at ”Celebration of Life” party

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

TOWNSEND — Lu Porter, most recently of “Atwood Cuties” fame, decided a long time ago that when her time came, there would be no funeral.

The spritely 77-year-old wants those who would remember her to do so with a smile rather than a long face and tears. A vibrant and colorful woman, Lu has always felt that life was meant to be celebrated, not mourned.

Having been told recently by doctors at Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital that her organs are not functioning well enough to keep her alive much longer, Lu found herself wishing to spend some time with the folks she’s met along the way.

After careful consideration of what to do for Mother’s Day, Lu’s children decided to grant Lu — known to many around town simply as “Ma” — her wish, and hold a “Celebration of Life” party.

The party is open to all who know and appreciate Lu’s zest for life and will be held Saturday, May 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Great Room at Atwood Acres on Dudley Road in Townsend.

Lu’s goal is, and always has been, to enjoy every moment of life and not let sadness and fear take away from that enjoyment. She is looking forward to spending an afternoon with family and friends sharing memories and laughter. No RSVP necessary — just show up any time between 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
