AYER — The Ayer girls track team pulled off a rare feat in their easy 108-27 win over St. Bernard’s when the Lady Panthers captured first place in every event. That outstanding effort keyed an impressive win which improved them to 5-1-1 for the season.
Taeler Connor led the way for the Lady Panthers, striking gold in three events. The talented senior captured the long jump with a leap of 13-1, the triple jump with a leap of 32-9.5, and the 200 meters with a clocking of 29.1. Connor also was a member of the winning 4 X 100 relay team, along with Shawnda Shaffer, Cassie Jones and Jess Hardy, which ran a 57.5.
A trio of Lady Panthers earned two first place finishes and a second to help key the win. Olivia Shultz won the javelin with a toss of 87-3 and the 400 meters in 1:11.1, while finishing second in the shot put. Biliana Mihaylova won both the 1600 meters (6:22.2) and the 800 meters (2:52.8), and was second in the high jump. Kim Farrington picked up first-place finishes in the 100 meters (14.0) and the 300 meter intermediate hurdles (52.7), and tacked on a second in the triple jump.
Julie Scunziano was a key contributor by winning the shot put (38-1) and the discus (80-3), and adding a third in the 200 meters. Kathleen McGuane enjoyed a productive day, prevailing in the 100 meter high hurdles with a clocking of 18.9, and adding thirds in the triple jump and the 400 meters.
Jess Hardy racked up points by finishing on top in the high jump with a leap of 4-6, and adding a third in the long jump.
Leah Smith also struck gold for the Lady Panthers by winning the 3200 meters in 14:18, while Ayer’s final first place finish came from the 4 X 400 relay team of Hardy, Jones, Shaffer and Shultz, who ran a 4:51.5.
Rayshelle Wright scored points in three events for the Lady Panthers, finishing second in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles, and third in the high jump and the 100 meter high hurdles.
