TOWNSEND — The Townsend Rod and Gun Club will host a Spring Fishing Derby on Sunday, April 30. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the derby will run from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the club pond on Emery Road off Route 13 in Townsend. Watch for direction signs along the way.
The Spring Fishing Derby is a long-awaited event and it promises to be a fun-filled day. Entry fee is $10 per person with a four- fish limit and entrants can reregister after catching the four-fish limit for an additional $9. There will be a $2 fish pool (longest), winner take all, and cash prizes up to $100. There will also be prizes for boys and girls ages 12 and under.
Raffle tickets at $5 each for an Old Town Canoe are available now and will be available at the derby. The winning ticket for the canoe will be drawn at noon on April 30 but the winner need not be present.
The fishing derby is open to all area adults and children. A fishing license is not needed and Townsend Rod and Gun Club membership is not required. Bait will be sold throughout the day.
The club kitchen will be open for breakfast and lunch.
