GROTON — Town Clerk Onorina Maloney would like to inform residents that there will be a special town meeting held within the annual town meeting. It is scheduled for April 24, at 8 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center, 344 Main St. The quorum requirement for the special town meeting is 133 registered voters.

If you are not already a voter and wish to register for the upcoming annual town meeting and town election, the Board of Registrars will be holding a special voter registration session today, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The only requirements to become a voter are that you must be a U.S. citizen, be 18 years of age and you must reside in the Town of Groton. You may register in person or by mail and can pick up the proper form at the clerk’s office during regularly scheduled business hours.

Absentee ballots for the May 16 annual town election will be available by the first week of May. You are eligible to vote by absentee ballot if you are unable to come to the polls in person on election day if you are absent from the Town of Groton during polling hours, have a physical disability that prevents you from going to the polling place or due to religious beliefs.

The clerk’s office is open Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the first and third Saturday of each month from September to June from 9 a.m. to noon.
