A little note in response to the 35-year resident of Townsend who can’t figure out why burning permits have been doubled.

A few years ago a change started in our town with the Volunteer Fire Department. A fine group of men became divided and a new chief was hired. One dedicated man left town partly because he couldn’t take it any longer, another sat back and quit, and another was forced to retire. There were approximately six good men that left the department because of these changes. Our new chief added fuel to the fire.

Costs have risen for many reasons, such as the $1200 per month fuel costs incurred by the Fire Chief’s car and the excessive cell phone bills.

But wait, I think all of these expenses are being addressed at this time. With this in mind, we should see a substantial reduction in our permit costs in the near future.

I am also requesting that my name be withheld because this 60-year resident has seen revenge.
