SHIRLEY — A mistake recently made by the town’s burial agent has cost the town just over $800.

The Finance Committee discussed the incident at a meeting this week before signing off on a reserve fund transfer to pay to move a casket approximately 36 inches from its original burial location in order to align the deceased party’s grave with that of the party’s spouse.

The move was paid for from the Cemetery Commission’s clean-up line after relatives of the deceased party came to Town Hall requesting that the already-buried casket be moved to its proper location. The move took place in December.

Poor judgment was to blame for the mistake, a member said. — Keyna Thomas
