SHIRLEY — The Board of Selectmen hosted Eric Shapiro, the owner of the Phoenix Park business complex, at its meeting on Monday, April 3.

Shapiro has been looking for ways to give back to the community. He initially approached the board in September 2005 and returned to update them on his progress.

”I was in last year talking about a couple of initiatives that I wanted to spearhead, and I met with (town administrator Kyle Keady) two or three weeks ago and came up with a date for Shirley Spring Cleanup Day. It will be on May 6, from 9 a.m. to noon, and then we’ll have pizza and beverages that will be provided by Phoenix Park,” said Shapiro. “The event will be under the direction of the (Department of Public Works). There will be cleanup at Benjamin pool and the cemetery. We ask people to bring rakes and gloves. Paint and paintbrushes will be provide by the town.”

”Mr. Shapiro is trying to spearhead this on behalf of Phoenix Park,” said Keady. “There will be painting the pool, cleaning up around the pool and the second thing is getting the cemeteries ready for Memorial Day.”

Any interested parties can call the Board of Selectmen’s office at (978) 425-2600 or e-mail selectmen@shirley-ma.gov. In the event of rain, call (978) 425-2600, ext. 806, by 8 a.m.

”We’ll have an inside project,” said Shapiro.
