SHIRLEY — Marilyn E. Kemp, the author of “Murder, Mather and Mayhem,” will be presenting a slide show entitled Naughty Puritans and Saintly Sinners on April 8, at 1 p.m., at the Hazen Memorial Library.
The presentation will run about 45 minutes with time for questions afterwards. Delicious desserts — recipes made from the award-winning friends cookbook, “Cookin’ With Shirley” — will be served following the presentation.
Naughty Puritans and Saintly Sinners is about our colonial ancestors who have too often been stereotyped as narrow-minded, gloomy-Gus Puritans, for whom pleasure was a sin. They were really a lusty, colorful bunch who loved good food, strong drinks and the opposite sex.
Moreover, they left us a strong heritage of public education, scientific inquiry and democracy in government.
A member of the Sisters in Crime Organization, Kemp was one of the mystery author panelists who appeared at the Hazen Library in January. She will have copies of her book available for purchase and signing.
