SHIRLEY — The Shirley Democratic Town Committee recently met to discuss the upcoming Meet the Candidates event, co-sponsored by the Ayer Democratic Town Committee, scheduled for May 26, at 7 p.m.

The guest list for the event includes Cohasset resident Dr. Samuel Kelley, candidate for lieutenant governor, and John Bonifaz, a candidate for secretary of state and clean elections attorney who assisted with the Ohio recount during the last presidential election, said Susan Kennedy, a member of the Acton Democratic Town Committee.

Also on the bill is state Rep. James Eldridge, D-Acton, running against Shirley resident and Republican Town Committee Chairman Kevin Hayes in this year’s election. Carol Bousquet is a democratic candidate vying for the seat held by state Rep. Robert Hargraves, R-Groton, who ran unopposed in 2004.

The committee hopes to be able to contribute to Eldridge’s campaign in the future, and will work to help Eldridge gain Shirley’s vote, said Shirley Democratic Town Committee Chairman John Oelfke.

”We have to be very diligent in getting the info out on (Eldridge),” he said.

Officers were also elected during the meeting.

Re-elected were John Oelfke, chairman; Elizabeth Keddy, treasurer; and Marion Cardillo, secretary. Alternate member Elizabeth Johnson was unanimously voted into full-member status, replacing Hugh Fields. Fields moved to western Massachusetts earlier this year and resigned from his position.
