SHIRLEY — An upgrade performed by Central/Western Massachusetts Automated Resource Systems (C/W MARS) will allow library members to enjoy new services and faster speeds with online site access, library Director Debra Roy said at the library trustees meeting.

Members will see changes when they log onto the C/W MARS site, she said. Now online users will be able to see if a book they placed on hold has become available as well as the cutoff date to pick it up.

The upgrade took place over the weekend and took several hours to complete, said Roy.

Also discussed at Monday’s meeting were tentative plans for a dedication ceremony honoring Sylvia Shipton for her many years of service as Shirley’s town clerk and her generous volunteer contributions to the library.

The event is scheduled to take place on April 29, at 11 a.m., at the library. Refreshments will be served at the event.

Several books have been purchased by the trustees, which will be dedicated to the library in Shipton’s name at the ceremony.

Name plates showing that the contribution was made in the former town clerk’s name are being designed, said Roy.
