HAMPDEN, Mass. — Rose M. (Elliott) Canada, 95, on Monday, April 3, from her home in Hampden took the hand of our Lord Jesus Christ who guided her safely to eternal peace and joy in that home He hath prepared.

Born and raised in West Townsend, Mass., to the late Warren and Ethel F. (Hill) Elliott, she was a longtime resident of Springfield before moving to Hampden 17 years ago. Rose was predeceased by her first husband, Harold Starrett, in 1961 and her second husband, Leroy Canada, in 1994. She was also predeceased by her son, Terry P. Starrett, on April 20, 2005.

She was a sales clerk for 20 years at the former Steigers Department Store on Main Street in Springfield and was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. She was choir director for many years down at Cozy Grove campground in Davenport, Fla.

Rose is survived by her son, Bradlee V. Starrett, and her daughter, Linda Whitaker, both of Hampden; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews and many brothers and sisters in Christ. Family and friends will meet on Friday for a service at 10 a.m. in Heritage Baptist Church, Springfield. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery, W. Townsend, Mass. Arrangements are being handled by Byron Funeral Home, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield.
