PEPPERELL — Howard R. “Skip” Blood, 76, died March 25 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He was born in Nashua on April 9, 1929, son of the late William R. and Lillian R. (Lawrence) Blood and was the husband of the late Helen L. (Balog) Blood, who died in 1999. He was a lifelong resident of Pepperell, where he attended the schools.
He had been employed at the former Grossman’s Lumber in Ayer for 30 years and also had been employed at the former Mohawk Club in Shirley as a bartender. In his earlier years he was a member of the Methodist Church of Pepperell.
He is survived by his children Russell W. Blood and his wife, Suzann, of Bellevue, Wash.; Marilyn J. Blood and her husband, John, of Ashburnham; and Kenneth J. Blood of Pepperell; three sisters: Barbara Hatfield of Wilton, N.H.; Beverly Wells of Ft. Washington, Md.; and Margie Wyatt of Jackson, Tenn.; along with seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, as well as his dog, Bear.
Funeral services were held on March 30 at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 37 Main Street (Route 113), Pepperell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans Assoc., 7 Mill Brook Rd., Wilton, N.H. 03086.
