TOWNSEND — The Police Department, assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team, is currently investigating a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 7, seriously injuring a young woman.
Police, firefighters and emergency medical service personnel were dispatched in response the accident as well. First to arrive was Medic 1, which requested rescue to the scene and LifeFlight to Leominster Hospital.
Kelly Brigham, 17, of Mason, N.H., was driving a 2002 Acura north on Lunenburg Road when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a tree. Brigham was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
Ambulance 48 transported her to Leominster Hospital to meet LifeFlight. She was then transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester. She is currently listed in serious condition.
The other vehicle involved, a 1998 Subaru Legacy wagon driven by Robert Pinero, 19, of Fitchburg, was also traveling north on Lunenburg Road.
Ambulance 49 transported him to Leominster Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the accident is unknown, but police say speed may have been a factor.
Rescue 1 cleared the scene at 10:44 p.m.
The condition of Kelly Brigham at press time was not released.
