HARVARD — The Bromfield Middle School girls basketball team is a work in progress and they entered play this season with a young and inexperienced team. The Lady Trojans have taken their lumps, but showed against Clinton that things may be starting to come together.
Bromfield didn’t win the game, but showed their mettle by never quitting. The Lady Trojans trailed 15-4 at halftime and could have thrown in the towel, but didn’t and they battled to the final whistle in a 24-19 loss.
Clinton built a 23-8 lead, but Bromfield put on a late spurt by scoring 11 of the final 12 points of the game.
Alli Waterhouse led the Lady Trojans with eight points and a hustling effort both offensively and defensively. Point guard Emma Rothkopf did a solid job of running the offense and added six points.
Other Bromfield players who scored in the game were Kate Finnegan, who hustled passed the ball well and scored two points, Alexa Pappas, and Jackie McHugh, who scored two points and added strength at the defensive end and off the boards.
Also playing well for the Lady Trojans were Julie Alexander, who was tough defensively, Meme Narbonne, who was strong off the boards, and Christy Devlin, who gave 100 percent effort from start to finish.
