AYER — The Ayer/Harvard/Shirley Rotary Club is pleased to lend its financial support to the New England Farm Worker’s Council (NEFWC), which manages the fuel assistance program for the towns it covers.
“We all remember the prodigious amounts of snow the area received last year, and the skyrocketing cost of fuel is having a disproportionate impact on those members of society least able to fend for themselves,” said rotary President Peter Lowitt, “The Rotary Club of Ayer, Harvard and Shirley would like supplement the efforts of the New England Farm Worker’s Council in our area.”
The Club has purchased close to $2,000 worth of fuel from local suppliers and has made it available to NEFWC to administer.
“We are pleased that local service clubs such as the rotary are responding to this crisis,” said John Keeney of NEFWC. “Federal fuel assistance dollars are scarce, and any supplement is welcomed and encouraged as we work together to keep our citizen’s safe and warm this winter.”
“Our motto for rotary is ‘Service above self,’ and we are pleased to be able to implement that belief for our communities,” said Lowitt.
If you feel you are eligible for fuel assistance, call the NEFWC at (978) 342-4520.
The NEFWC is located at 435 Main St., Suite 3040, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
