GDEF announces ‘Bet Your Lucky Stars’ fund-raiser


GROTON — The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is at the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation’s (GDEF) next exciting event, Bet Your Lucky Stars. The event will be held Friday, March 24, from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. The event will take place at the Marriott in the Devens Common Center. It will include a dinner, dance, silent and live auctions, and a money raffle. All proceeds will benefit GDEF and the students of the Groton Dunstable Regional School District (GDRSD).

“We’re very excited to be working with Marriott in their beautiful new facility at Devens,” said Alice Anne Barbo, chairperson of the event. “This evening will offer something for everyone, with delicious food, select auction items and an outstanding band. Also, for the first time we will be offering the option of online ticketing by credit card, making it a breeze to order your tickets.”

An elegant sit-down dinner will be followed by dancing to music from the award-winning Jeff Pitchell Band. Jeff’s lively blues style has taken him to the Top Ten on Billboard’s blues chart.

“No one will be able to stay off the dance floor once Jeff starts to play.” Barbo said.

The auctions will feature special items including a guitar signed by the band, Indian Hill Orchestra tickets, a portrait photography package, a selection of fine wines and gift certificates for area fine dining.

“We have some wonderful items already donated, but we can always use a few more,” said GDEF Director of Fundraising Janet Sheffield.

The event will also mark the launch of GDEF’s Bet Your Lucky Stars money raffle, with cash prizes of $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000. Three lucky winners will be chosen on May 25.

Tickets for the event go on sale on Feb. 6. Dinner dance tickets are $60 per person. Order tickets online at using a credit card or by printing out and returning the Dinner Dance Ticket Order Form with a check.

Proceeds from the event will help fund GDEF’s fall 2006 grant cycle. To date, the foundation has awarded 64 grants totaling more than $107,000 to enhance the education of children in the district. For information visit the grants page on the Web site.
