Local student to attend National Young Leaders State Conference

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

GROTON — Russell Kniffin, a ninth-grade student at Groton Dunstable Regional High School, has been accepted to the National Young Leaders State Conference (NYLSC), to be held in Boston from Jan. 26 to 29.

NYLSC accepts outstanding eight and ninth grade students who demonstrate maturity, academic excellence and leadership potential. Students are selected to attend NYLSC by teachers and mentors within their community. Russell was nominated to the conference by Linda Trask, one of his seventh grade teachers.

Throughout the four-day program, participants will build a working “toolkit” of strategies to help them successfully dream, create and implement plans that will change how they view their role as leaders in their communities.

The NYLSC curriculum focuses on an introspective and personalized assessment of each participant’s leadership skills and abilities. The students will be challenged to step forward in a manner that is decisive and confident, to grasp the concepts of leadership that will be taught and to act upon their dreams of making a difference in the world while maintaining the courage of their convictions.
