Fourth candidate withdraws; board extends interim TA contract

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

AYER — The Board of Selectmen (BOS) originally had two interviews for the town administrator position scheduled for Tuesday, but the fourth candidate, Christopher Clark, called the selectmen’s office that morning to say he was no longer in the running.

Clark called earlier in the day, and had left the message on the voicemail of selectmen executive assistant Janet Lewis, who was not in on Tuesday, nor was she at the meeting.

Since interim town administrator Ed McCann did not have access to Lewis’ voice mail, the news of Clark dropping out did not reach the board until after the meeting had convened.

Clark dropped out due to a job offer he received in the private sector, said McCann.

In related news, the board also voted to extend McCann’s contract by two weeks. His contract was set to expire today, but he agreed to the extension, so long as a more agreeable schedule could be negotiated with Morrison.

McCann has served as interim town administrator since August, having been brought onboard shortly after the resignation of previous town administrator Anita Scheipers.
