Congregational Church members focus on outreach

Last modified: Wednesday, December 14, 2005

LITTLETON — Congregational Church members, Sam Bell, Jim Potter and Wendy Parker, all of Littleton, will travel to another United Church of Christ (UCC) Church, the Good Shepherd Church, in Metarie, La., the week of Jan. 1 through 7.

The thrust of their work in Louisiana will be to prepare the Metarie Church as the site of an ongoing mission work camp. The work camp will house groups who will help rebuild communities in an area so devastated by hurricane Katrina. Each worker will bring at least $750 to help cover airfare, food and building supplies.

In another outreach initiative, 16 year-old church member, Molly Loughman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Loughman of Littleton, will be going on a mission trip to Medellin, Colombia in South America the week of Jan. 12 to 23.

Molly’s mission team will work with abandoned street children in the Medellin area and help to organize a non-traditional Vacation Bible School. A rehabilitation house will be available to former street children. Loughman’s mission team will also visit a women’s rehabilitation home outside Medellin. Clean, used summer clothing, underwear and socks for children ages 4 to 16 are needed for this mission effort.

For more information about donating clean, used children’s clothing, please call the church office at (978) 486-3245.
