MWCC hurricane benefit concert

GARDNER — Tickets are on sale now for MWCC’s Hurricane Katrina benefit concert featuring The Ethan Stone Band on Friday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. (Snow date Jan. 14). Tickets are $15 for the general public; $10 for MWCC students. Tickets can be purchased at the Theatre at the Mount Box Office, located in the Raymond M. LaFontaine Fine Arts Building at the Gardner campus, or online at http://www.mwcc.edu/HTML/gmod/tam/stone/ethanStone.html. All proceeds will benefit the Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative, a network of 12 community health clinics affected by Hurricane Katrina. Women’s Club

GROTON — The Groton Women’s Club will hold their monthly meeting on Friday, Dec. 16 at 11:30 a.m. at the Union Congregational Church, Main Street, Groton. The program, “Horse and Buggy Days in Groton,” will be presented by Beverly Bukkhegyi, Groton history and equine enthusiast. A holiday tea will be held after the meeting and program.

New Years Eve celebration

SHIRLEY — The Shirley American Legion will host a New Years Eve Celebration on Dec. 31 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Festivities will include music by The Goat Ropers. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the Legion. Early ticket purchases are recommended as seating is limited.

SHIRLEY — St. Anthony’s of Padua Church will host a New Years Eve party on Saturday, Dec. 31 from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Disc jockey John Wood will provide the music. There will be a full service hot buffet, favors and a midnight champagne toast. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The event will take place in the Father Derosier parish hall, 33 Chapel St., Shirley. Tickets are $25 per person and are available at St. Anthony’s Rectory or at Gionets Garage on Main Street. Tables of eight may be reserved by calling Chairman Alphee Levesque at (978) 425-4973.

REGION — The United States Postal Service, throughout the month of December, will conduct, “Operation Phone Card.” Last year, the Mass. Postal District helped employees and customers donate thousands of telephone minutes to military personnel overseas. U.S. Postal Service’s first class phone cards can be purchased for as little as $10. For more information, speak with a sales and service associate at your local post office.

Door decorating contest

GROTON/DUNSTABLE — A holiday door decorating contest will take place in the towns of Groton and Dunstable. Entrants in the contest will be eligible to win $100. To enter, contact MRM Associates by Dec. 16 by calling (978) 448-3031 or e-mail info@mrmrealty.com or leave your name, address and phone number at MRM’s office. Judging will be on Dec. 19. The winner will be announced on Dec. 21. All entrants will receive $500 commission credit if they list with MRM during 2006.
