On Saturday, Dec. 10, the Friends of the Groton Public Library hosted our annual pictures with Santa event. Nearly 100 local families took time out of their busy holiday schedules to each have a special personal visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
In the cozy comfort of our beautifully decorated library, children got their photos taken, picked out homemade cookies to bring home and received a new children’s book as a gift from the Friends.
Many volunteers gave their time and efforts to make this Groton tradition a wonderful success. Once again, Joni Parker-Roach was our amazing photographer and upheld her record of no film jams for four years running! Lori Sullivan’s flawless direction kept the picture room running precisely on time. Groton Brownie Troops 634, 669, 902 and 1217, along with Junior Girl Scout Troop 592, provided delicious cookies to give to the children.
Smiling Cyndy Premru ran family check-in quite efficiently with the able help of the Friend’s co-president, Pam Stone. Unlike the hour-plus wait at the mall on a Saturday morning, no family had to wait even a minute beyond their scheduled appointments!
Our children’s library staff was especially helpful with sign-ups and day of event support. Elf McCullough O’Neill guided families to the picture room with holiday cheer. Thank you!
Most of all, I would like to thank the stars of the show — Mr. and Mrs. Claus. David Banks embodies the true spirit of Christmas and Santa Claus. Groton’s very own Jean Cummings gave us a warm and wonderful Mrs. Claus. Thank you both for taking the time to talk to each child and make each one feel so very special.
