HARVARD — A reception the School Committee hosted for Dr. Thomas Jefferson last week turned out to be a small but pleasant party, with quiet conversation and a tempting table of light refreshments.
The refreshments — a colorful array of fresh melon and grapes, cookies and other sweet treats, fruit juice and soft drinks — were prepared by Bromfield’s own Chef Paul.
The light turnout was the chance this event presented for people in the community to meet the new superintendent. And vice versa.
Jefferson has said he would seek communication opportunities like this and though the two-hour gathering did not draw much of a crowd, the people who passed through the Bromfield cafeteria last Thursday did not have to wait in line to meet the guest of honor.
Jayne Rowe came with her son Matthew, a seventh-grade student who plays soccer and basketball and said he might try out for (rowing) crew in the spring. If swimming is offered, he will sign up for that, too, he said, munching on a plate-sized cookie.
Others who came to greet guests and chat with the guest of honor included current school board members Willie Wickman, Mark Hardy and Will Verbits and former board members Sharon McKenna and Hank Emerson.
