TOWNSEND -- The Townsend Military Band will play an afternoon concert from the band stand on the Townsend Common on Sunday, Sept. 16, in conjunction with the Townsend Historical Society's 37th Annual Arts and Crafts Fair. The public is invited to attend the concert, which is being funded by supporters of the Townsend Historical Society.
The Townsend Military Band under the direction of Thomas Souza will open at 1 p.m. by playing "76 Trombones" by Willson, arranged by Anderson and adapted by Bocook, and the "Blue Tango" by Anderson.
"The Wizard of Oz" arranged by Barnes, "American Patrol" by Meachum, and "Hollywood Milestones" (themes from "Jaws," "Star Trek," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Chariots of Fire," etc.) will follow. Mancini's "Elephant Walk, "Music of the Carpenters," and "That Ragtime Regiment Band March" arranged by Lewis will be included in the first portion of the program.
Osterling's "Nutmeggers March," "Sea Songs" by Vaughn Williams, and Bennett's arrangement of the "Sound of Music" will be played following intermission. The Townsend Military Band will perform Murtha's arrangement of "Glenn Miller in Concert," "Flourish for Wind Band" by Vaughn Williams, and Alford's "Colonel Bogey March" before it concludes its concert at 3 p.m. by playing the "Star Spangled Banner."
