TOWNSEND -- The 18th Annual William E. May Endowment Fund Award Dinner will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Townsend Ridge County Club. The Friends of the Townsend Seniors and the Endowment Award Committee announce Betty Mae Tenney has been selected as the 2018 honoree.

"Who is Betty Mae Tenney?" It would not be an exaggeration to say Betty Mae has touched the lives of thousands. She has been instrumental in the success of the Santa visits and Easter egg hunts; annual essay and art contests for middle-school and high-school students; and blood drives through her long-time affiliation and leadership roles at the Townsend VFW Post 6538.

If you have enjoyed the Townsend Military Band concerts on summer evenings on the town common -- be thankful to the long-time band manager (and clarinet player) Betty Mae Tenney.

This quintessential behind-the-curtains volunteer serves hundreds -- of all ages -- with a can-do attitude, candor, humor, with genuine humility. Betty Mae personifies the intent of the award -- extraordinary acts of kindness in extraordinary ways.

Dinner tickets are $50 per person. To purchase tickets, contact Ruth Gibbs at 978-660-5042. Checks are made payable to: Friends of the Townsend Seniors, memo line: William E. May Endowment Fund and mailed to P.O. Box 972, Townsend MA 01469.
