TOWNSEND -- The annual silent auction of wreaths and wall décor is being held again this year in Townsend's Meeting Hall Gallery, sponsored by the Gallery Committee.

Proceeds from this year's sale, which started on Nov. 1, will be donated through the American Red Cross to aid victims of recent hurricanes and natural disasters, according to Alice Struthers, Gallery Committee Chairman.

Bids are made by signing a sheet placed by each piece. The bidding will cease on Nov. 29 at 2 p.m., and then winners will be notified by phone.

Local businesses that are sponsoring an entry to the auction include: The Bronze Bell, Apple Meadow Hardware, The Farmer's Exchange and Susan Bates Home and Garden.

The other pieces were created and donated by local artists and craftspeople.

"We hope lots of people take the chance to have an original wreath or wall piece, and contribute to a good cause at the same time," Struthers said.

Auction items are hung in The Meeting Hall Gallery and the corridor adjacent. The building is open during Senior Center hours: Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Library hours: Tuesday to Friday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Gallery is located in the Senior Center/Library complex on Route 13N.
