TOWNSEND -- The 2nd Annual Town Wide Yard Sale in Townsend will take place on June 3. The rain date is June 4.
This year, it will be on the Town Common and will include vendors. The Lions Club will be selling hot dogs and drinks. Quilts of Valor will also be on the Common to support our veterans. There will be many more community programs to raise money, including TEO, the Library, Scouts, Townsend Recreation and others. There will be a donation box for anyone interested. The main goal this year is to raise money for the playground.
If you are not hosting something at your house, plan on making a day of going out and supporting this town wide event! Maps will be available at 8:30 a.m. on the Town Common. There is a $3 fee for obtaining a map which will go toward the cause.
The town playground was donated more than 20 years ago by Sterilite Corp. This year, the playground is no longer under warranty and $1,000 of the playground's fund has been spent on repairs. Some of the things needed include: new picnic tables; staining all the wood; having one main sign for the rules to the grounds so there won't be so many notices posted all over the fences; a true wheelchair accessible playground from the main gate to (at the very least) the main structure; two or three new pieces of equipment that are geared toward special needs children; a community garden; sand for the sand box; replacing or painting the fence.
If you would like to be a vendor at this event, mail or drop off your entry form by May 24 to: Town Wide c/o Cynthia Donovan, 99 Main St., Townsend, MA 01469 (drop offs =place forms in lock box attached to wishing well at 99 Main St.) along with a check made payable to "The Town of Townsend" memo line "Playground Fund." There is a minimum donation of $10 to be listed on the event map. You may also e-mail your form to cynthia@FifthGenMason.com. Once your donation is recieved, your location will be added to the master list. Find it on Facebook at "Townsend Community Wide Yard Sale." If you have any questions, please call 978-597- 2232. Some entry fees may be waived for local community organizations/programs and/or charities.
