TOWNSEND -- The Townsend Historical Society will hold its annual meeting on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2 p.m. at the Townsend Meeting Hall, 12 Dudley Road, in Townsend.
Following a brief business meeting, retired Townsend Chief of Police William May will speak about his recent book, "Once Upon a Crisis."
Bill May grew up in Townsend, and after serving in the U.S. Navy, returned to work in the town's police department in 1973. In 1981, he became chief of police, earning the deep respect and affection of the community throughout his tenure.
After he retired in 2002, he turned to writing. "Once Upon a Crisis" is his second book, and he shares some of the stories of cases he managed and their impact on him and the town. He is an engaging speaker with a powerful topic the audience will find riveting.
Members and the public are invited to attend. May will sign copies of the book, which will be available for sale.
