TOWNSEND -- Townsend VFW Post 6538, its Ladies Auxiliary and its Men's Auxiliary will host a Red Cross Blood Drive in their 491 Main Street, West Townsend, VFW Function Hall on Thursday, Feb. 21, between 2 and 7 p.m.
Everyone 17 years of age or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds, is in generally good health and has not given blood within the previous 56 days is encouraged to "give the gift of life" that day. Sixteen-year-olds may donate blood with parental permission. Individuals, who are 18 years of age or younger, do have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood donations are traditionally low in the winter; so every contribution will be greatly appreciated.
Double Red Cell donations may be made at this Feb. 21 Townsend VFW Blood Drive. Those with blood type O, A-negative or B-negative are asked to consider donating double red cells. Some of the benefits of double red donations are two red cell units with just one donation, comfortable beds, smaller needles and a minimum of 112 days between blood donations.
Walk-ins are welcome, but anyone wishing to schedule a specific appointment time or who has questions about donating blood, should call the Red Cross at 1-800-448-3543.
