DETROIT (AP) — Actor Denis Leary has given the Detroit fire department $260,000 worth of new equipment paid for by proceeds from a documentary film about the city's firefighters.

Mayor Mike Duggan and Fire Commissioner Edsel Jenkins on Thursday accepted the donation that was made through the Leary Firefighters Foundation.

Leary is a "Burn" executive producer and portrayed a firefighter on the TV series "Rescue Me." He says "every dollar makes a difference" and that he's blessed to help "courageous firefighters."

"Burn" chronicles the struggles of Detroit firefighters. Filmmakers Tom Putnam and Brenna Sanchez followed firefighters to make the movie. It has screened in 170 cities.

Leary is to host a screening of "Burn" later in the day at The Fillmore Detroit.
