The York Revolution aims to be the first professional baseball team to accept the online digital currency Bitcoin as a way of purchasing tickets this season.
The Revs partnered with Crypto Coin Consulting, a business launched last year in York to provide an outlet to accept digital currency, to launch the ticket program.
Fans can begin to make Bitcoin transactions for game tickets starting Monday by scanning the Revolution QR code with their mobile devices. This can be done only in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket office at Santander Stadium. Tickets purchased with Bitcoin avoid typical online transaction fees.
The 2014 Atlantic League season begins on April 24 when the Revolution host the Camden Riversharks at Santander Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
York is an independent team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, unaffiliated with Major League Baseball.
