After an ESPN The Magazine piece led to a firestorm surrounding Ian Kinsler and his comments, the Detroit Tigers second baseman is claiming that his comments were taken out of context.
The former Texas Ranger told a reporter that he hoped his former team would go winless and called the Texas Rangers' general manager a “sleazeball,” in a piece published online Tuesday morning.
Here's what Kinsler told the media Tuesday, according to the Associated Press:
I'm not happy about it. I think that the story was written for drama, and taken a little out of context. I understand there were some things directed at the GM, but as far as my teammates and the fans, there's nothing negative to say about that, and I think the quotes taken about the general manager were taken a little out of context.
Kinsler added that his comment, wishing the Rangers went 0-162, was meant to be a joke. Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington poked some fun at the comment, at which he didn't seem offended.
“We won't go 0-162, guaranteed,” he said.
