In an ongoing competition of Seahawks and 49ers fans trying to one-up each other, something wonderful has happened.
Fans from both cities are entrenched in another competition leading up to Sunday's NFC Championship Game and it's all for a good cause. Each fan base is trying to see who can donate more money to a charity in the other team's city.
This idea appears to have sprung from a stunt 49ers fans pulled in December, when they raised money to post a billboard in Seattle. Seattle fans had hired a plane to fly over Candlestick Park with a Seahawks banner the week before. The billboard, which was located less than a mile from CenturyLink Field and displayed San Francisco's five Lombardi trophies, raised over $8,000 dollars and all additional money was donated to Seattle Children's Hospital, the organizer said..
Now both fan bases are working together with Seattle fans donating to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital and 49ers fans still raising money for the Seattle Children's Hospital.
Both the Seahawks and 49ers caught wind of the fundraiser and announced they will match donations in each city up to $100,000.
Seattle hosts San Francisco at 6:30 p.m. ET Sunday.
