HARVARD- Bromfield junior attacking-mid, Lexi Dutkewych had a career day with her game-high five goals in the Lady Trojans 15-4 drumming of Marlboro on a cold, rainy afternoon. Kiley Nigren poured in four goals, while Jackie Planchet and Sophia Turchetta produced hat-tricks.
"We have a lot of people who can contribute," said head coach Hilary Kuss on the Lady Trojans' scoring distribution. "I think they all did that today."
Bromfield moves to 1-3, while Marlboro remains winless at 0-5. Senior goaltender, Hannah Basnett turned in a stellar performance between the pipes stopping 20 shots. Bromfield drew first blood at 3:24 of the first half with an unassisted strike from inside the 12-yard line by Nigren.
Less than a minute later, Sophia Turchetta found the back of the net with a skip-shot that snuck its way inside the far post to give the Lady Trojans a 2-0 lead. Bromfield would get three more goals from Dutkewych,Nigren, and Planchet before the Lady Panthers answered.
Marlboro's Kendra Harrington stopped the Lady Trojans' attack briefly with an unassisted goal from the right side with 12:48 remaining in the quarter, to cut Bromfield's lead to 5-1.
The Lady Trojans quickly regrouped, and Turchetta scored on a wrap-around from behind the cage 30-seconds later to push Bromfield's lead to 6-1. Bromfield scored three more goals before the half expired to extend their lead to 9-2.
Bromfield continued to attack the net in the second half, and Dutkewych was rewarded on a feed from Nigren 2:00 in. Harrington found the back of the net again at 5:30 of the second half, with a bullet from the left-side that beat Basnett to bring the Lady Panthers within six at 9-3.
Turchetta and Nigren scored back-to-back goals midway through the half, and Bromfield continued to pressure the Marlboro defense.
Nigren was awarded a free-position shot from the 12-yard line, and she made the most of it, by beating the Marlboro goalie five-hole to send the game into running time at 12-2 with 8:45 remaining.
Planchet tallied another goal from the free-position a minute later. Nigren added another on the score sheet with under 1:00 left, as the Lady Trojans cruised to their first victory of the season after a 15 goal outburst.
Bromfield outshot Marlboro 38-24, and Lady Trojans head coach Hilary Kuss is pleased with her team's performance.
"We were pleased with the outcome today," said Kuss. "We started the season 0-3, so it is good to get a win. Hannah (Basnett) was awesome, she did really well. I was really pleased with the way she played."
