FITCHBURG -- North Middlesex's boys' track team competed in the Division 1 Central Mass. Track and Field District Championships last Sunday, and took home an overall finish of eighth place with a point total of 26.9.

The Patriots enjoyed a gold-medal performance by their 2-mile stud sophomore Chris Skelly with his time of 10:11.68.2. Skelly beat eventual team champion Wachusett's Grant Hauver, who finished eight seconds behind him. Senior captain Bobby Johnston placed second with his finish of 2:46.79 in the 1,000-meter event. Wachusett's Brian Cusack edged out Johnston with a time of 2:44.22.

Other notable Patriots' finishers included a fourth-place finish in the 4x880 relay with a time of 9:15.79. Members of the North Middlesex relay team included Nick Koulopoulous, Bennie Lowe, Christopher White and Gavin Thomas. In the 4x220, senior captain Brandon Lambert's team of Tyler Zech, Garnette Goorahlal and Justyn Atwoood finished in fifth place with a time of 1:43.65.

The top three finishers from each event qualify for the state relays, and two Patriots will represent North Middlesex at the meet.

Johnston and Skelly will move on to compete in the All-State Relays at the historic Reggie Lewis Center in Boston tomorrow at 1 p.m.
