SHIRLEY -- ShirleyArts! presents the musical comedy Once Upon a Mattress on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. All shows will be held at the Ayer Shirley Middle School, 1 Hospital Road. "Once Upon a Mattress" is the familiar story of the "Princess and the Pea," with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller and Marshall Barer.
Starring in the show as the Princess is Heather Pruiksma of Ayer with John Williams of Leominster as the Prince. Terrie Hyde of Lunenburg plays the Queen who gives impossible tests to all those who hope to marry her son. Roy Ellis, who plays the speechless King, is aided and abetted by Chris Lydon as the Minstrel and Gavin Robillard as the Jester. The star-crossed lovers are William Annand and Laurie Marcinkewicz as Sir Harry and Lady Larkin while Cindy McCarthy appears as the conniving Wizard.
Also appearing as lords, ladies, pages, and servants at the castle are Jess Atkins, Sam Atkins, Cathy Belliveau, Ashley Dustin, Desiree Feigley, Katie Haas, Lizzy Haas, Kim Huxley, Diane King, Victoria Landry, Nicky Lowney, Faith Massoni, Piper Rakip, Nancy Sawyer, Jenn Shea, and Alex Williams.
