Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts recognized Shirley volunteer Susan Dean for her service to girls and the community.

The award was presented at GSEMA's annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on April 28 at the Sheraton Hotel in Framingham. Approximately 90 individuals and four service units (a group of volunteers representing a town or several towns) from across eastern Massachusetts were recognized for their service.

Service Unit Coordinator Dean was honored with the Girl Scout Appreciation Pin for her sustained service to supporting the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in the Nashaway Service Unit.

"Our volunteers are the heartbeat of our organization, and it is truly an honor to celebrate them," said Denise Burgess, Chief Executive Officer, Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts. "We are fortunate to partner with 15,000 passionate, dedicated, and caring individuals, who believe so deeply in our mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character and make the world a better place, that they devote extraordinary amounts of time and energy as Girl Scout volunteers."

Nominated by their peers and council staff, these volunteers have been recognized for giving service that is above and beyond the expectations of their position. All awards require one nomination, one endorsement and the approval of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts' Board of Directors.
