Shirley's share of the $19 million local cost for the proposed Ayer-Shirley Regional School District high school renovation and addition would be $5 million.

Enrollment-based capital cost percentage split in the regional agreement is 60/40 between Ayer and Shirley, respectively, but an amendment that recently passed in both member towns tips the scale even more toward Ayer, allowing for a fair-share contribution to Shirley's middle school debt.

With a total cost estimate of $56.6 million, the Massachusetts School Building Authority has agreed to reimburse the district for over 70 percent of covered costs, or $37 million.
